Argentina Copa America 2016

Messi Misses Penalty, Chile Wins Copa America

Argentina's Lionel Messi missed a penalty kick in the shootout, and Chile's Francisco Silva converted the winning penalty to give La Roja their second consecutive Copa America title.

Messi's miss was the only one in the shootout, as all 10 other players converted their penalties. Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo made two saves in the shootout, including one on Sergio Aguero's penalty.

The victory was Chile's second consecutive Copa America title, and their first since 2015. It was also the first time that a team had won the tournament back-to-back since Brazil in 1997-99.

Messi was visibly distraught after the match, and he was seen crying on the field. It was a disappointing end to a tournament in which Messi had been one of the standout players.

Chile's victory was a triumph for coach Juan Antonio Pizzi, who took over the team after Jorge Sampaoli left following the 2014 World Cup. Pizzi has now led Chile to two Copa America titles and a runners-up finish at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Messi's penalty miss will be remembered as one of the most iconic moments in Copa America history. It was a moment of heartbreak for Messi and Argentina, but it was also a moment of triumph for Chile and their fans.
